  • New Biomass Emissions rules come into play!

  • 11:13 am - September 24, 2013

  • New emission rules came into play today for Biomass Boilers which means there are quite a few boilers especially the type being used by farmers to dry grain etc that will no longer qualify for payments. Fortunately our HDG Biomass Boilers we supply in partnership comply with all new regulations as they are the cleanest available on the market.

    Below are some of the details of the changes when it was agreed in the summer;

DECC’s Iain Mathieson gave this answer:

The date we intend to ‘make’ the regulations, which include emissions limits for biomass boilers, is September 23rd, subject to Parliamentary approval. If we are able to make the regulations as planned, they would come into force on September 24th. These regulations are scheduled to be debated in Parliament on 9th and 10th July.

We will be beginning stakeholder engagement over the coming days to ensure the industry is prepared for the introduction of the limits.

    So to clarify …

    • The emissions limits apply to you if your application for the RHI was submitted on or after 24th September 2013.
    • This means that if you were a participant in the RHI scheme before 24th September 2013 and you apply for additional capacity for your boiler on or after 24th September 2013, your boiler’s additional capacity will also need to meet the emission limits.
    • If you received preliminary accreditation on or before 24th September 2013, your boiler will not need to comply with the emissions limits.

For reference, the emission limits are:

    • 30 g/GJ (grams per gigajoule) PPM10 particulates
    • 150g/GJ NOx

  • A visit to the meadow……….solar meadow that is!!!!

  • 3:00 pm - September 16, 2013

  • UKFM were delighted to be invited to visit the first “Solar Meadow” to be installed in Scotland at the Edinburgh College in Dalkeith, Midlothian. The £1.2m investment will see the development of 2500 solar pv panels provide free solar electricity to the campus for years to come. With a number of our agricultural and commercial clients looking to do the same type of developments on there land or at there business we are grateful to Professor Steve Tinsley for allowing us to have a great site visit.

If you think this type of development could suit your business, college or farm contact David Lewington on 07553 283210.

  • First Minister Alex Salmond & Richard Lochead at Turriff show 2013!

  • 5:26 pm - September 13, 2013

  • A wee photo from the summer road shows across Scotland culminating in the fantastic Turriff show. As part of UKFM’s partnership with NFUS we  were invited to sit around the table and discuss renewable energy and the benefits to farmers and the country alike with the First Minister. Our Business Development Manager, David Lewington is pictured behind Lorna Paterson (Regional Manager of NFUS Scotland) and First Minister Rt Hon Mr Alex Salmond MSP. AS UKFM installs a number of larger scale grid connected solar systems we were able to share some of the frustrations of slow grid offers and tariff changes with the expert panel who agreed there have been many successes and the North East in particular has grabbed the renewable energy bug!!!
